Trap and Ball, Trap, Cricket, all these names refer to a game of releasing the ball then hitting it with a stick or bat. Cricket was the pastime of the upper crust in England and colonial America. Lower classes enjoyed trap ball. As Puritan rules on play relaxed in the mid 1700’s , it became a game directed towards children. Later in the century it became popular with colonial soldiers who needed a fun diversion when they were not on campaign.
Our Trap and Ball is completely handmade in our toy shop in Kentucky. Made of cedar and other hardwoods, it is pegged together just like the original games. The ball is oak, the paddle is ash. Comes with a cotton storage bag and instructions. We researched original construction techniques, looked extant examples and after two years of trial and error, we feel this the closest version to the original available.
